After loss, you may find yourself looking at your own life and feeling strangely disconnected from it, as though nothing quite belongs to you in the way it once did.
There are moments when you notice it in the smallest ways.
Choosing what to do with your day…
and not really knowing what you want.
Starting something… and losing interest almost immediately.
Looking around your life… and feeling strangely separate from it.
As though everything is there… but none of it quite feels like yours.
That feeling can be difficult to explain.
Because from the outside, it may look as though you are coping.
But inside, there can be a quiet disconnection.
A sense that you are moving through things…
without feeling part of them in the way you once did.
And that can feel unsettling.
When you lose someone you love, so much of your life shifts, often without you even realising it at first.
As you begin navigating life after loss, it is not unusual to feel disconnected from parts of yourself that once felt familiar.
The way your days were shaped.
The way decisions were made.
The way you saw yourself within your life.
All of that can change.
And without those familiar anchors, it can feel as though your sense of self has loosened.
Not gone…
but harder to reach.
So it makes sense that things may no longer feel quite the same.
Sometimes, what you may be quietly longing for is not something big or life-changing.
But something smaller.
Something that feels steady.
Something you can return to.
Something that belongs to you, without needing to be explained or shared.
A small place where you can spend a little time…
without carrying quite so much.
You don’t need to have all the answers right now.
And you don’t need to know exactly what that “something” is.
It may begin very simply.
A small moment.
A quiet interest.
Something that feels just slightly different from everything else.
That is often how these things begin.
Gently.
Almost unnoticed at first.
To New Beginnings,
Ruth ❤️
